What is the SHSM Manufacturing Programme?

The manufacturing Major introduces students to skilled trades and professional areas such as engineering, technologist, millwright, machinist, tool and die, and welder. Students apply their knowledge and skills of computer assisted design, blueprint reading, physics and mathematics while working on unique projects and problem solving opportunities.

Why get involved?

  • Design and develop a construction project
  • Fabricate a variety of structures
  • Experience the design or construction environment through work placements
  • Relate their studies in core subject areas to chosen interest area
  • Graduate with a SHSM seal of designation on your secondary school diploma
  • Earn a Specialist High Skills Major designation on OSSD transcript
  • Gain valuable industry specific work experience and knowledge

What can I do to prepare?

  • Plan accordingly: take the Grade 9 and Grade 10 courses that will lead into this SHSM.
  • Attend a Parent/Student School to Career Information Evening. See your guidance department for dates.
  • Visit your guidance counsellor at your home school for further information.

When can I get started?

Apply in Grade 10 to begin the program the following year

Enrollment is limited. If you are interested but have not completed a Request for Information Form (RIF) please do so ASAP by contacting your Guidance Counsellor or SHSM liaison.
