Accurate school records are extremely important to the health and welfare of your children. It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that the school has accurate records concerning your child.
CHANGES of telephone numbers, addresses, emergency contact person, doctor, etc. need to be reported to the school secretary so that our records are accurate and up-to-date. Parents may examine the student records by appointment with the Principal.
Health Information
The school works closely with the Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Health Unit. Public Health Nurses are available for consultation at the Health Unit at 519-846-2715.
SPECIAL HEALTH CONCERNS/MEDICATIONS
Please advise your child’s teacher and the Office if your child has a special health problem
such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, recent surgery or any condition requiring medication.
Medication taken in error can be fatal. Student medication must be kept at the School Office unless special arrangements have been made. Parent or Guardian must fill out an authorization form which may require a doctor’s signature. All prescription and over the counter medication must have the student’s name on it and be in it’s original container.
Illness at School
We will make a sick student as comfortable as possible while you or your Emergency contact are being called. Please be sure your child has a place to go if they are sick. Having them at school will only give the sickness opportunity to spread. Parents should make other arrangements for students who are too ill to participate in a full day at school (including breaks). This helps significantly in keeping illness at school to a minimum. We ask, unless there are approved, special circumstances, that it not be requested that students stay in during all breaks, especially during winter, colder weather.
Injury at School
When an injury appears to be serious, the Principal or designate may take the child to a hospital, or call an ambulance. In all cases, we shall do our best to contact you or the emergency contact person you have indicated so someone can meet the student at the hospital. Please ensure that your emergency and work numbers are current.
Pediculosis/Head Lice
From time to time there are reported cases of pediculosis in the school. While this may not be a cause for alarm, you should check your child’s hair regularly. When individual cases arise, all students in the classroom and the classrooms of their siblings will be informed of the treatment necessary by a notice. Please do not ignore these notices. The only way we can keep this problem under control, is to check carefully as frequently as the notices come home. Children returning to school after being treated for pediculosis are asked to check in with the office before returning to class.
Leaving School Early
If your child must leave school before the normal dismissal time, please send a signed and dated note to the teacher. As we have no accurate way of verifying the identity of a telephone caller, we will not release a student unless we are confident of the identity of the caller. Your child’s safety is of utmost concern to us.
