Choosing the correct courses takes time and proper planning. The following are some steps to help guide you when selecting your courses.
  • Do you have the proper prerequisites for the courses you wish to take?

  • What courses are needed to gain acceptance into the college/university programs you are interested in?

  • Do you have the proper background skills for the courses you are selecting? It is strongly recommended that you attain at least a 70% achievement (ministry standard) in order to remain at your current program level. For example, if you wish to take grade 10 academic science (SNC 2D), you should have achieved 70% or better in SNC 1D. If you did not attain the ministry standard, you will not be properly prepared for the next course. Similarily we would advise against selecting the University Preparation Sciences, SCH 3U, SBI 3U or SPH 3U if you have acheived below 70% in SNC 2D.

  • What courses did your previous/current science teacher recommend? Your teachers are familiar with your strengths and weaknesses and are aware of what courses are best suited to your needs. If you are unsure of what science courses are right for you, consult your science teachers.
