History Department
The GCVI History department consists of many dynamic teachers. The department offers courses that allow students from grade 10 to grade 12 to pursue studies from Canadian and American History, to Anthropology and World Religions.

Tillsonburg Trench Trip – Grade 10 History Trip
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to walk a day in a soldier’s life? On this trip you will have the opportunity to train like a soldier, fight in a mock trench battle and examine artifacts from WWI and WWII.
This trip will be offered to all grade 10 history students. It costs $30.00 per student which covers the bus ride there and back, a soldier’s lunch and pizza at the end of the day.
We know you’ll have a wonderful time!! 
Juno Beach Fundraiser
All grade 10 classes will participate in this fundraiser. The goal of our department is to buy each GC student who lost their life in WWII a brick at the Juno Beach Centre in Normandy France.
- Semester One Fundraiser will run during the first two weeks of November and end on Remembrance Day
- Semester Two Fundraiser will run during the last week of May and end on June 6th (D-Day Landing)
Fundraising November 2009 resulted in the History students raising enough money to purchase 4 bricks!!

Erica Morant Scholarship Award
A senior student will be awarded this scholarship. This is a student who has taken a senior Canadian history course
or a senior course with significant Canadian content.
