Community Relations

The Guelph Collegiate School Council is an active group of parents, staff, students and community members who provide support for the school, offer advice on the programs and policies, and encourage communication with our parent community. This council established and promoted the "Food for Thought" breakfast program for the students of Guelph Collegiate. They continue to support staff in their efforts to provide a healthy, safe, and exceptional learning environment for all students.

Our "Partners-in-Education", McNeil Consumer Healthcare, continue to support G.C.V.I. by recognizing exceptional student achievement, making available enrichment opportunities for students, and participating on School Council.

The Parent Music Council works in cooperation with music students and staff to raise money and plan events to promote the music program at G.C.V.I.

Guelph Collegiate has a strong alumni association that supports the school in the community. Projects such as the restoration of the school entranceway and the "Wall of Fame", which recognizes prominent graduates of Guelph Collegiate, have been made possible through alumni support. The alumni planned the 150th reunion celebration of Guelph Collegiate in 2004. The staff and students of The Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute appreciated the support of our community.

The GCVI Student Senate is also committed to improving Guelph Collegiate's image within the community. In May 2003, following a constitutional update, Senate added the positions of Press Secretary and Community Relations Rep. to its executive. They work with community organizations and local media outlets to promote the positive image of GCVI.

In January 2004, six of Guelph's high schools launched the Guelph Secondary Student Councils Association. Proposed by the GCVI Senate the organization promotes communication and organization among the schools. It also acts as a unified voice in the community on issues that are important to all secondary students in Guelph.
