ESL Brochure September to December 2011 LINC Brochure September to December 2011 ESL and LINC Classes September to June Day classes July and August Day classes We offer many different levels of classes from ESL literacy to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 9. All classes study speaking, listening, reading, grammar and writing. A language test determines the level of class in which you begin your studies. Instructors give you feed back on your progress at the end of term. You can register for the morning class or the afternoon class, or both classes. September to December Late Afternoon Class A multi-level class (Literacy to CLB 5) in which you study listening, speaking, reading, grammar and writing. A language test is required before you start your studies. September to August Night Classes We offer multi-level classes from ESL Literacy to CLB 9. All classes study speaking, listening, grammar, reading and writing. A language test determines the level of class in which you begin your studies. Academic Test Preparation: Preparation strategies for TOEFL and IELTS This course provides an overview of TOEFL and IELTS. The knowledge and strategies you will need to be successful on these tests will be presented and practiced. Accent Reduction This 8-week course is designed for people who are comfortable expressing themselves in English, but feel that their pronunciation needs improvement. Pronunciation rules will be reviewed and students will be given exercises and suggestions to improve their pronunciation. Advanced Conversation and Pronunciation This course for intermediate and advanced students reviews essential knowledge about correction English pronunciation. It also gives students a chance to practice your English with Canadians to increase your confidence. This course provides students with insights into how Canadians interact at work whether it is face-to-face, at meetings or through emails. The course also focuses on vocabulary building with a special emphasis on commonly used idiomatic expressions related to the world of work. Business English and Workplace Communications for New Canadians - Part 2 This course continues to provide students with insights into how Canadians interact at work whether it is face-to-face, at meetings or through emails. The course also focuses on vocabulary building with a special emphasis on commonly used idiomatic expressions related to the world of work. Canadian Idioms and Expressions This new course will improve students’ understanding of common Canadian idioms and expressions used in conversation and the media. Students will develop their listening comprehension skills, increase their understanding of the meaning of idioms and expressions, and practice using them in conversation and role play. Sentence Structure and Grammar – Part 1 Each week of this 8-week course will focus on a different aspect of grammar that is crucial for creating English sentences correctly. Some of the grammar points which will be reviewed are verb forms and tenses, conjunctions, the use of active and passive voice, and transitions. Sentence Structure and Grammar – Part 2 Each week of this new 8-week course will focus on a different aspect of grammar that is crucial for creating English sentences correctly. Some of the grammar points which will be reviewed are verb forms and tenses, subordinate clauses, noun clauses and subject verb agreement Writing Skills: Essay Basics Part 1 This class will help those who wish to improve their writing skills for study or for work. Learn how to write a short essay in English. Writing Skills: Essay Basics Part 2 This new 8-week course will help those who wish to improve their writing skills for study or for work. Building on the knowledge of the essay form gained in Part 1, students will learn how to write different types of essays including research essays. Writing Skills: Paragraph Writing This class will help those who wish to improve their writing skills for study or for work. Learn how to write paragraphs in English. Saturday courses which may be offered from September to June: Citizenship Class This course will give help you to prepare for your Canadian citizenship test. Pronunciation & Advanced Listening Comprehension For high intermediate and advanced CLB students who wish to review the essentials of English sounds and intonation as well as improve their listening comprehension skills.
