It is the responsibility of each child to follow accepted safety procedures both at school and travelling to and from school. Safety patrols and bus patrols are present to aid students to take responsibility for their own safety.

Creative Playground Rules:
The rules are posted in each primary classroom for daily reference.

Walkers:
We encourage our students to use sidewalks and to cross roads at intersections. If approaching the school from Tower Street and St. George Street at the front of the church, there is a safety patroller on duty at this corner. Students who come to school along Tower Street North and Hill Street must use the crosswalk. There is a safety patroller on duty at this crossing. Our third patroller is on duty at the corner of Maiden Lane and St. George Street. Students coming from Victoria Wood subdivision are asked to cross Garafraxa Street at Perry Street where there is a Crossing Guard.

Bicycles:
Children in grades 4, 5 and 6 are allowed to ride bicycles to school. For safety reasons bikes are to be walked across school property, placed and/or locked in the bicycle racks at the east end of the school during school hours. For protection of the bicycles, this area is not used for general play.

Bus:
Much time, effort and cooperation between school personnel and bus personnel has been spent on developing routines, procedures and expectations to ensure that your child has a safe ride to and from school. While being transported, every student is responsible to the Principal for his/her conduct. The cooperation of our parents to review frequently the expectations with your child/our student, will enhance a pleasant and safe ride on the bus. If buses are cancelled because of inclement weather, announcements will be broadcast on local radio stations as well as the Upper Grand DSB website. Pupils are NOT allowed to ride buses or allowed off buses at other “stops” other than their own.
